IMHO a stop/start system is more of a bonus than a must have feature. For most of my driving the start/stop would never kick in as the traffic I get stuck in is either at the start of the journey or on a hill. You have to start moving with the car then you can switch it off. This is my experience with DSG. Mine's manual - it might work a bit differently. I turn the ignition on, press the 'cancel S/S' button, its light comes on (and stays on) and there is no S/S till I next turn the ignition on. 651.
